The 2009 sailing season is on!

The official 2009 Race Calendar is now online. This season will be marked by three historical events, a racing program with three major open regattas and a full publishing schedule for the web site.

The 2009 sailing season is on!

Racing is on!

Throughout the season, the calendar and the events will be updated. You will find there the Race Instructions, Notice of race as well as the date of the events. We thus invite you to consult it regularly.

It is with pride that the SLVYRA publishes its calendar of races for 2009. This calendar posts the regattas and the race events for the Montreal area.

This season has some special interests. It will mark the fiftieth birthday of the Shark, the hundredth birthday of the Hudson Yacht Club and will see the SLVYRA Trophies start to come back into circulation. . These trophies symbolise the rich historical heritage of the regattas of the Montreal area.

Three great regattas will take place this year.

Three events that are a great opportunity for those who want to see how they “measure up” against the opposition on both the lakes of St. Louis and Two Mountains. They include:

The Lake of Two Mountains Championship, which opens the season this year.  It is constituted of a series of races, where the candidates of the lake clash during over a little more than a month, at a rate of one evening per week.

Secondly we have SAILWEEK, which is held on the Lake St-Louis. This event includes one week of intense regattas including nine races in eight days. All the participants of SAILWEEK are invited to feast with the members of the yacht clubs of Beaconsfield and Pointe-Claire, as the respective annual festival of these two clubs marks the beginning and the end of this week of regattas.

And last but not least, the great race of the end of the season will be the “impossible to miss” Labour Day Regatta of Hudson Yacht Club. Two days of extraordinary racing, counting more than one hundred yachts and, for those which like a party, a supper with orchestra where all the participants are invited.

Keep up to date!

The SLVYRA web site publishing schedule will be fuller than this season. In addition to the events, you will be able to read about subjects such as " How to improve your performances" (boat material and sailing techniques), " Sailing Stories”, as well as useful tricks on how to race and how to run regattas, with authors such as Pierre Marois (North-American Champion 2005, Tanzer 22) who we hope will give us some hints as to how he achieved his success! Be there!

So the ball is in your court.

Don't forget that the SLVYRA web site is YOUR site.  The SLVYRA is not a private company.  It is a non-profit organization that is strictly run by volunteers and financed with small contributions from the member yacht clubs in the St Lawrence Valley.

Share your passion by sending us notes and short articles on boating (cruising or racing), and of news about the events, summaries of the events and photographs, and we will publish them for you with pleasure. Email them to us at editors@slvyra.ca.
