The Eager Beaver plaque was originally donated to the club around 1982 by an unknown admirer and supporter of Lightning Fleet 215. It was intended to be sailed early in the season to get everyone going. Russ Scrim, the “unknown supporter”, was a lifelong very active supporter of the Lightning class starting in 1956, and culminating with a first place finish in a local race on his 86th year. The “Beaver” part represents his many years working and leading Beaver Construction with John Newman. Russ Scrim not only sailed and supported the Lightning class for over 50 years, but he was very active at the RSTLYC as a volunteer, Commodore, past Commodore, and many other roles. He was also involved in organizing the 1976 Olympic Sailing in Kingston. The original plaque has been withdrawn and replaced with a new ice bucket as the Russ Scrim Cup.
