2009 Trophy Winners

As advertised, the SLVYRA Trophies for the 2009 season have been awarded.

This has been later than expected as this is the first year in some time that a number of the SLVYRA trophies have been awarded again. Some of these Trophies date back 60 years and more, and your executive has been anxious to re-introduce them to the St. Lawrence Valley racing community after some years of absence.

In order to do this it has been necessary to update the way in which the winners are chosen, and this is still a work in progress. Presently the SLVYRA Executive sits as a committee to decide on the best performances during the year of the contenders for the Trophy. This is sometimes difficult, as some of the candidate winners have sailed close races. Where possible, the last major regatta in which they both competed is used as a deciding factor. In the future, it is hoped that the SLVYRA representatives from the member clubs will be able to take a more active role in presenting their respective candidates to the committee for selection.

Now that we have the SLVYRA web site running more or less smoothly, we are able to use this to Present the Trophy winners to the community. And this year, 2010, we expect to be adding another four Trophies to the set that we have awarded for 2009.

It is hoped that this year the winners will be presented before, or soon after, the close of the racing season.
